Caesura and rhyme
పాదంలోని యతిస్థానం, పాదాల ద్వితీయాక్షర ప్రాస, వృత్తం-జాతి-ఉపజాతి భేదం.
The fixed echo-point inside a line, the second-syllable rhyme across lines, and the three classes of Telugu verse.

Knowing the gaṇas tells you how many steps a line takes. It does not yet tell you why the line sounds bound together. In విశ్వదాభిరామ వినుర వేమ the వి of the opening returns partway through; in the Sumatī Śatakam the second syllable of all four lines is the same. Those two habits have names: yati and prāsa.
సూత్రాలు · The rules
Yati also means a pause: you rest the voice there. The echo does not demand the identical letter, only a related one — a with ā, i with ī, u with ū; any two consonants of the same varga (క ఖ గ ఘ); and a plain consonant with its conjunct (ప with ప్ర).
ఇంగ్లిష్ కవిత్వం పాదపు చివర ప్రాస వేస్తుంది; తెలుగు పాదపు మొదట్లో వేస్తుంది. అందుకే తెలుగు పద్యం వింటుంటే ప్రతి పాదమూ ఒకే శబ్దంతో మొదలైనట్టు అనిపిస్తుంది. ప్రాసాక్షరం ముందున్న అచ్చు కూడా అన్ని పాదాలలో ఒకే పొడవు ఉండాలి.
English rhymes at the end of the line; Telugu rhymes at the front. That is why the four lines of a padya seem to start from the same sound. The vowel before the prāsa consonant must also keep the same length in every line.
That is the line dividing the three classes. A vṛtta comes from Sanskrit, counts syllables, and repeats the same shape in all four pādas. The jātis and upajātis are Telugu's own and count mātrās. Because an upajāti need not rhyme, it leaves the poet far freer — which is why Vemana and Tikkana used them so heavily.
ప్రక్రియ · Step by step
- వి-శ్వ / దా-భి / రా-మ / వి-ను-ర / వే-మ — అయిదు గణాలుగా విభజన (ఆటవెలది నాలుగవ పాదం)
- హ / హ / హ / న / హ — U I, U I, U I, I I I, U I — అన్నీ సూర్యగణాలే
