Level 12 · Lesson 1 వాక్యం
The sentence
ప్రతి వాక్యానికీ ఉద్దేశ్యం, విధేయం అని రెండు భాగాలు; తెలుగు పదక్రమంలో సమాపక క్రియ ఎప్పుడూ చివరనే నిలుస్తుంది.
Every sentence divides into a subject and a predicate, and in Telugu the finite verb always stands last.
గుర్తు చేసుకోండి · You already know this
Since Level 1 you have been saying things like నా పేరు రవి, రాముడు పండును తిన్నాడు and పక్షులు ఎగిరాయి. Not once did you put the verb in the middle — it always went last, and the agreement ending on it always matched whoever you were talking about. This level starts by naming the two halves every one of those sentences was built from.
సూత్రాలు · The rules
పదాలు కలిస్తే చాలదు; భావం పూర్తి కావాలి. 'ఎఱ్ఱని పెద్ద ఇల్లు' అనేది పదాల గుంపే గానీ వాక్యం కాదు — దాని గురించి ఏమీ చెప్పలేదు. 'ఎఱ్ఱని పెద్ద ఇల్లు ఊరి చివర ఉంది' అన్నప్పుడు మాత్రమే అది వాక్యమవుతుంది.
A pile of words is not yet a sentence. ఎఱ్ఱని పెద్ద ఇల్లు — a big red house — names something but says nothing about it. Add ఊరి చివర ఉంది and the thought closes. That closing is what the word వాక్యం is reserved for.
The ఉద్దేశ్యం is normally the noun or pronoun doing the acting; everything else — object, adverbs, qualifiers and the verb itself — belongs to the విధేయం. To split any sentence in two, ask ఎవరు? (who?) or ఏది? (what?) of the verb. The answer is the subject; the whole remainder is the predicate.
English decides meaning by position; Telugu decides it by case endings, so the other words are free to move for emphasis. పండును రాముడు తిన్నాడు still means Rāma ate the fruit — it merely stresses that it was Rāma. What you may never do is lift the finite verb out of last place.
ఉద్దేశ్యం మారితే క్రియ చివరి ప్రత్యయం మారాలి. మహద్ బహువచనానికి -ఆరు, అమహద్ బహువచనానికి -ఆయి, అమహద్ ఏకవచనానికీ స్త్రీవాచక ఏకవచనానికీ -ఇంది. అన్వయం చెడితే వాక్యం తప్పు — ఇది తెలుగులో అత్యంత తరచుగా జరిగే పొరపాటు.
Change the subject and the ending must change with it: -ఆరు for a rational plural, -ఆయి for a non-rational plural, -ఇంది for a non-rational or feminine singular. పిల్లలు వచ్చాయి is simply wrong, and it is the commonest slip learners make.
ప్రక్రియ · Step by step
