Level 9 · Lesson 15 సర్వనామ రూపాలు
Declining the pronouns
నేను → నా → నన్ను; అతడు → అతని; ఆమె → ఆమెను — సర్వనామాల వికారి రూపాలు.
Pronouns change their own shape before an ending: nēnu → nā- → nannu, ataḍu → atani-.
గుర్తు చేసుకోండి · You already know this
'నాకు తెలుసు', 'నన్ను చూడు', 'నీకు కావాలా?', 'అతనికి చెప్పండి' — ఈ వాక్యాలు మీకు ఆర్క్ A నుంచీ వచ్చు. ఇక్కడ ఒక చిత్రం గమనించండి — 'నేను' అనే పదం ఈ నాలుగింటిలో ఎక్కడా కనిపించలేదు. ప్రత్యయం చేరగానే అది నా- గా, నన్- గా మారిపోయింది.
You have said నాకు తెలుసు, నన్ను చూడు, నీకు కావాలా, అతనికి చెప్పండి hundreds of times. Look at what is missing: the word నేను itself never appears. The moment an ending arrives, నేను turns into నా- or నన్-. A noun keeps its shape and adds the ending; a pronoun rebuilds itself first. This lesson lays out those rebuilt stems.
సూత్రాలు · The rules
నామవాచకానికి ప్రకృతి అలాగే ఉండి ప్రత్యయం చేరుతుంది. సర్వనామానికి ప్రకృతే మారుతుంది; ఒక్కసారి మారాక అన్ని విభక్తులకూ అదే ఆధారం. నా- తెలిస్తే నాకు, నాతో, నా వలన, నా కొఱకు, నాయందు — అన్నీ వాటంతట అవే వస్తాయి.
Learn one oblique stem and the whole column follows. From నా- you get నాకు (to me), నాతో (with me), నా వలన (because of me), నా కొఱకు (for my sake), నాయందు (in me — the య్ is the యడాగమం you met in Level 8). There is nothing further to memorise for that pronoun except one irregular accusative.
Left bare, the stem already means possession: నా ఇల్లు (my house), మీ పేరు (your name). Keep the Level 1 contrast alive — మా ఊరు is our town not counting you, మన దేశం is our country including you.
ఇది గుర్తు పెట్టుకోవలసిన చోటు. నా + ను అని కలిపితే రాదు; ద్వితీయాలో నన్- అనే వేరే రూపం వస్తుంది — నన్ను, నిన్ను. బహువచనంలో మమ్మల్ని, మనల్ని, మిమ్మల్ని (గ్రాంథికంలో మమ్ము, మిమ్ము).
This is the one place where the pattern breaks and you must simply learn the forms. నా + ను does not give the accusative; a separate stem నన్- appears, hence నన్ను and నిన్ను. The plurals are మమ్మల్ని, మనల్ని, మిమ్మల్ని, whose older literary shapes మమ్ము and మిమ్ము you will meet in verse.
అతడు → అతనికి, అతనితో, అతనిని; ఇది రాముడు → రామునికి అన్న మహద్వాచక పద్ధతే. ఆమె మాత్రం మారదు — ఆమెకు, ఆమెతో, ఆమెను. అమహత్తులో అది → దానికి, దానిని; అవి → వాటికి, వాటిని. మహద్ బహువచనం వారు → వారికి, వారిని.
అతడు behaves exactly like the మహత్తు noun రాముడు: drop the -డు, take -ని, and build on it (అతనికి, అతనితో, అతనిని). ఆమె is the easy one — it never changes at all (ఆమెకు, ఆమెతో, ఆమెను). For things, అది goes to దాని- and అవి to వాటి-, so 'to it' is దానికి and 'to them' is వాటికి.
