నామవాచకం, సర్వనామం, విశేషణం, అవ్యయం — నాలుగు పదజాతులు, వాటిని గుర్తించే ప్రత్యయ పరీక్ష.
The four word classes of Telugu grammar, each recognised by the suffixes it can take.
గుర్తు చేసుకోండి · You already know this
ఆర్క్ A లో మీరు వందల వాక్యాలు చెప్పారు — 'అందమైన పువ్వు ఇక్కడ ఉంది', 'అతను కూడా వచ్చాడు'. ఈ వాక్యాలలోని ప్రతి పదానికీ ఒక జాతి ఉంది. ఇప్పుడు ఆ జాతులకు పేర్లు పెట్టి, వాటిని గుర్తించే పరీక్షను నేర్చుకుందాం.
You have been saying sentences like అందమైన పువ్వు ఇక్కడ ఉంది and అతను కూడా వచ్చాడు since Level 1. Every word in them belongs to a class: పువ్వు is a noun, అతను a pronoun, అందమైన an adjective, కూడా a particle. This lesson gives those classes their traditional names and, more usefully, a test for telling them apart.
సూత్రాలు · The rules
ఇది అర్థాన్ని బట్టి కాదు, రూపాన్ని బట్టి చేసే విభజన. పదం వెనుక వచన ప్రత్యయం -లు, విభక్తి ప్రత్యయం -ని, -కి, -లో చేరుతున్నాయా లేదా అని చూడండి — జవాబు దానంతట అదే వస్తుంది.
The test is formal, not semantic: try to hang a plural -లు and a case ending on the word. What sticks, and what refuses to stick, tells you the class. (The verb is a fifth class with a whole level of its own ahead of you.)
పువ్వు, ఇల్లు, ఊరు, స్నేహం — అన్నీ నామవాచకాలే. పువ్వు అంటే వస్తువు, స్నేహం అంటే భావం; రెండూ ప్రత్యయాలను తీసుకుంటాయి కాబట్టి ఒకే జాతి.
A నామవాచకం names a thing, a person, a quality or an abstract idea. పువ్వు (flower) and స్నేహం (friendship) look very different in meaning, but both accept -లు and a case ending, so grammar files them together.
నేను → నాకు, నువ్వు → నీకు, అతను → అతనికి. నామవాచకంలో ప్రకృతి అలాగే ఉండి ప్రత్యయం చేరుతుంది; సర్వనామంలో ప్రకృతే వేరే రూపం తీసుకుంటుంది. ఇదే సర్వనామాన్ని విడిగా నిలబెట్టే గుర్తు.
నేను becomes నా- before an ending (నాకు), and అతను becomes అతని- (అతనికి). A noun keeps its shape and adds the ending; a pronoun changes shape as well. That is exactly why the tradition gives pronouns a class of their own.
అందమైన పువ్వు, అందమైన పువ్వులు — విశేష్యం బహువచనమైనా విశేషణం మారలేదు. ఆంగ్లంలో లాగే తెలుగులోనూ విశేషణం ఎప్పుడూ విశేష్యానికి ముందే నిలుస్తుంది.
పెద్ద, చిన్న, కొత్త, అందమైన — none of them ever inflects. Make the noun plural or put it in a case and the adjective sits there unchanged, always in front. English adjectives behave the same way, which makes this the easiest class to spot.
మరియు, కానీ, లేదా, కూడా, మాత్రమే, బహుశా — ఇవన్నీ అవ్యయాలు. 'వ్యయం' అంటే మార్పు; మార్పు లేనిది కాబట్టే అవ్యయం అనే పేరు.
మరియు, కానీ, లేదా, కూడా, మాత్రమే, బహుశా are all అవ్యయాలు. The name says it: వ్యయం is change or loss, and an అవ్యయం suffers none. If nothing at all will stick to a word, you have found one.
ప్రక్రియ · Step by step
