సెలవు కోసం దరఖాస్తు
Father, I need leave tomorrow. What should I do?
You must write an application to the school.
Should I write it like a letter?
No. In this you do not write 'Dear'. You begin with 'To the respected Headmaster'.
And then?
One line: 'Subject: application for leave'. Then begin with 'Sir,'.
What do I write inside?
'I have a fever. Therefore I cannot come to school tomorrow. I request that one day of leave be granted.'
At the end?
Write 'Yours faithfully', then put your signature and the date below. Handing the paper in at the office is enough.
వివరణ · Explanation
ఉత్తరం వేరు, దరఖాస్తు వేరు. దరఖాస్తులో కబుర్లు ఉండవు — ఒక్క విషయం మాత్రమే.
An application is not a letter with a stiffer coat; it is a different document. There is no ప్రియమైన, no family news, no question asked back. You address the post and not the person — గౌరవనీయులైన ప్రధానోపాధ్యాయుల వారికి, గౌరవనీయులైన అధికారి వారికి — you name the matter in a one-line విషయం, and then you say one thing only: what happened, and what you are asking for.
ముఖ్యమైన నాలుగు పంక్తులు — 'గౌరవనీయులైన … వారికి,' · 'విషయం: …' · 'అయ్యా,' · 'ఇట్లు, మీ విధేయుడు'.
Four lines carry the whole form, and they never change. The address block comes first. Then విషయం, with the matter stated in as few words as possible: విషయం: సెలవు కోసం దరఖాస్తు. Then the single word అయ్యా, which is how a formal letter says 'Sir'. Then the body, and last the sign-off ఇట్లు, మీ విధేయుడు (or విధేయురాలు) that you already met in the previous lesson.
'ఇవ్వవలసినదిగా కోరుతున్నాను' — ఇది పాత శైలి. ఒక ముక్కగా నేర్చుకోండి. వాడుకలో 'సెలవు ఇవ్వండి' అంటాము.
The one phrase that looks difficult is the request itself, and it is best learnt whole rather than taken apart: సెలవు ఇవ్వవలసినదిగా కోరుతున్నాను, 'I request that leave be granted'. It comes straight from the గ్రాంథికం you saw in l06-07 — that వలెను ending in literary dress — and it survives in official Telugu because it names no one as the doer. Spoken Telugu would just say దయచేసి సెలవు ఇవ్వండి. Below the sign-off go two things and nothing else: your సంతకం on the left and the తేదీ under it. The paper is then handed in at the కార్యాలయం.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
ఒక దరఖాస్తు బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'గౌరవనీయులైన … వారికి. విషయం: … కోసం దరఖాస్తు. అయ్యా, … దయచేసి … ఇవ్వవలసినదిగా కోరుతున్నాను. ఇట్లు, మీ విధేయుడు …'
Pick a real reason — two days of leave, a lost library card, a seat in a class — and speak the whole application aloud in six lines: the address block, the విషయం, అయ్యా, two sentences of reason in the past tense, the request formula, and the sign-off. Then say the same request the way you would say it to a friend: రేపు రాలేను, సెలవు కావాలి. Hearing the two versions back to back is the quickest way to feel what 'formal' actually changes — not the meaning, only the shape.
