అక్కకు ఉత్తరం
Sīta, what are you writing?
I am writing a letter to my elder sister.
How did you begin it?
At the top I wrote the town and the day. Then I wrote 'Dear akkā,'.
What did you write inside?
That I am well here, and I asked whether all of you are well.
At the end do you write 'Yours faithfully'?
I am a girl, remember — I wrote 'Yours, your younger sister Sīta'.
And the address?
I will write the address on the outside — the name, the house, the town.
వివరణ · Explanation
ఉత్తరానికి మూడు భాగాలు — పైన ఊరు, రోజు · పలకరింపు 'ప్రియమైన …,' · చివర 'ఇట్లు, …'.
A Telugu letter has three fixed parts and a free middle. At the top right you put the place you are writing from and the day. Then comes the greeting on its own line, ending in a comma. The body is yours to fill. At the bottom left stands the sign-off, which always begins with the little word ఇట్లు — literally 'thus', the equivalent of 'yours'. Everything else in between can be as long or as short as you like.
'ప్రియమైన' తరువాత పేరు పిలిచే రూపంలో వస్తుంది — ప్రియమైన అక్కా · ప్రియమైన స్నేహితుడా · ప్రియమైన రవీ.
ప్రియమైన means 'dear', and the name after it goes into the calling form: అక్క becomes అక్కా, స్నేహితుడు becomes స్నేహితుడా, రవి becomes రవీ. Use it for anyone your own age or younger, and for friends. To an elder you do not call at all — you address them with -కి and add a greeting: పూజ్యులైన నాన్నగారికి, నమస్కారం. That respectful opening is worth learning as one fixed block.
ముగింపు — 'ఇట్లు, మీ విధేయుడు రవి' · 'ఇట్లు, మీ విధేయురాలు సీత'. ఇంట్లో వాళ్ళకు — 'ఇట్లు, మీ కొడుకు', 'ఇట్లు, మీ చెల్లెలు'.
విధేయుడు means 'the obedient one, your faithful servant', and it is the standard formal sign-off from a man; a woman writes విధేయురాలు. Inside a family the warmer choice is simply to name the relationship — ఇట్లు, మీ కొడుకు రవి or ఇట్లు, మీ చెల్లెలు సీత. The చిరునామా is not part of the letter at all: it goes on the outside, and runs from the person outward — పేరు first, then the house, then the town.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
ఒక చిన్న ఉత్తరం బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'ప్రియమైన స్నేహితుడా, నేను ఇక్కడ బాగున్నాను. మీరు బాగున్నారా? … ఇట్లు, మీ విధేయుడు …'
Speak a whole letter aloud before you ever write one. Begin with the place and the day, then ప్రియమైన followed by a friend's name in the calling form. Give four sentences of news in the past tense — where you went, whom you met, what you ate, what you did not manage to do. Ask one question back. Then close with ఇట్లు and the sign-off that fits you. Say it twice; the second time, write it down exactly as you said it, and you have your first Telugu letter.
