పుస్తకంలో భాష వేరుగా ఉంది
Ravi, the language in this old book is different. I find it a little hard.
That is the literary register. What we speak is the everyday one.
Give me one example.
We say నేను పని చేస్తున్నాను. The book has నేను పని చేయుచున్నాను.
And 'I did'?
In the literary register, నేను చేసితిని. The meaning is the same; only the form differs.
Does this difference still exist today?
Today everyone writes in the everyday register. The literary one lives in old books and in grammar.
So both are Telugu — two styles.
వివరణ · Explanation
రెండూ తెలుగే. వాడుక — మనం మాట్లాడేది. గ్రాంథికం — పాత పుస్తకాల శైలి. ఒకటి మంచిది, ఇంకొకటి చెడ్డది కాదు.
Telugu has two registers, and neither is a mistake. వాడుక (also called వ్యావహారికం) is the living spoken language — it is what you have been learning for six levels, and it is what novels, newspapers and letters are written in today. గ్రాంథికం is the older literary style: the language of the classical poets, of temple inscriptions, and of the grammar books. Think of them as two శైలులు of one language, not as right and wrong.
రూపాల భేదం — చేస్తున్నాను · చేయుచున్నాను. చేశాను · చేసితిని. చేస్తాను · చేసెదను. చేయాలి · చేయవలెను. వచ్చాడు · వచ్చెను.
Most of the difference sits in the verb endings you already know. Spoken చేస్తున్నాను is literary చేయుచున్నాను; spoken చేశాను is చేసితిని; spoken చేస్తాను is చేసెదను; spoken చేయాలి is చేయవలెను; spoken వచ్చాడు is వచ్చెను. The pronouns shift a little too — అతను becomes అతడు and వాళ్ళు becomes వారు — and nouns that end in -ం when you speak keep their full -ము when written that way: పుస్తకం is పుస్తకము, ధనం is ధనము.
మీరు గ్రాంథికం మాట్లాడక్కర్లేదు. చదవడం చాలు. ఎనిమిదో స్థాయి నుండి ఈ రూపాలు పేరుతో వస్తాయి.
You are not being asked to speak this way. What you need is to recognise a literary form when you meet it on a page, and to hear చేసితిని and చేశాను as the same word wearing different clothes. From level 8 onwards, Arc B names these forms and works with them, because the Telugu grammatical tradition was written in that register. Until then, keep speaking వాడుక — and remember that a hundred years ago Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy fought a long public battle to make exactly that the language of books as well.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
'చేయు' తో ఐదు వాక్యాలు చెప్పండి — నేను పని చేస్తున్నాను · నేను పని చేశాను · నేను పని చేస్తాను · నేను పని చేయాలి. తరువాత ప్రతి వాక్యం గ్రాంథిక రూపంలో చదవండి.
Build five short sentences around the one verb చేయు — నేను పని చేస్తున్నాను, నిన్న నేను పని చేశాను, రేపు నేను పని చేస్తాను, నేను పని చేయాలి, అతను పని చేశాడు. Say each one aloud, then immediately say its literary twin: చేయుచున్నాను, చేసితిని, చేసెదను, చేయవలెను, చేసెను. Run the five pairs twice, so that each spoken form and its written counterpart arrive together in your ear. You will speak only the first of each pair for the rest of Arc A — but you will read the second without stumbling when Arc B opens.
