కాకి, నక్క కథ
Today, an animal story. Do you know the tale of the crow and the jackal?
I do. A crow took a piece of bread and sat on a tree.
A jackal came below. It said, 'You sing very beautifully.'
The crow heard that and sang. At once the piece of bread fell down.
The jackal took that piece and went away.
Well told. What is the ending of the story?
When the crow sang, the piece was lost. That is the ending of this story.
Good. Tomorrow I will tell the story of the lion and the rabbit.
వివరణ · Explanation
ముక్క తీసుకుని చెట్టు మీద కూర్చుంది. అది విని పాడింది. ముక్కను తీసుకుని వెళ్ళింది. — చివరి క్రియకు మాత్రమే కాలం.
A fable is a chain of small actions, and చేసి is what links them. తీసుకుని, విని, చూసి carry no tense and no person at all; they simply say 'having taken', 'having heard', 'having seen'. Only the last verb in the chain is finished — కూర్చుంది, పాడింది, వెళ్ళింది — and it alone tells you the time and the doer. That is why a Telugu story can run several events into one smooth sentence where English would need three.
జంతువులు అమహత్తు. కాకి వచ్చింది, నక్క వచ్చింది, నక్కలు వచ్చాయి, సింహాలు వచ్చాయి.
Animals are అమహత్తు, and a fable is where that rule gets a real workout. One animal takes the -ఇంది ending: కాకి కూర్చుంది, నక్క వచ్చింది, కుందేలు పరుగెత్తింది. Several animals take -ఆయి, never -ఆరు: నక్కలు వచ్చాయి, పక్షులు పాడాయి. They may talk like people in the story, but they still agree like things.
జంతువుల మాటలు కూడా అని తోనే — 'నువ్వు బాగా పాడతావు' అని అంది. అను: అన్నాడు · అంది · అన్నారు · అన్నాయి.
When an animal speaks, quote it exactly as you would quote a person: the words first, then అని, then the verb of saying. Because the speaker here is a jackal, that verb is అంది, not అన్నాడు — 'నువ్వు చాలా అందంగా పాడతావు' అని నక్క అంది. Learn the four together: అన్నాడు for a man, అంది for a woman or an animal or a thing, అన్నారు for people, అన్నాయి for several animals or things.

మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
ఇప్పుడు మీరే ఈ కథ చెప్పండి — నాలుగు వాక్యాలు. ఒక వాక్యంలో చేసి, ఒక వాక్యంలో అని వాడండి.
Retell the crow and the jackal in four sentences without looking. Build at least one sentence as a chain — కాకి ముక్క తీసుకుని చెట్టు మీద కూర్చుంది — and put the jackal's flattery into one quotation closed with అని. Check every verb ending as you go: one animal is -ఇంది, several animals are -ఆయి. Then tell it again with సింహం and కుందేలు as the two characters and see how little you have to change.
