వివరణ · Explanation

తెలుగులో 'ఎవరు, ఏది' అనే కలిపే పదం లేదు. వాక్యమే విశేషణంగా మారి, నామవాచకం ముందు నిలుస్తుంది.

English joins a clause to a noun with a little word — the girl WHO came, the book THAT I read. Telugu has no such word. Instead the clause itself becomes an adjective and stands in front of its noun, with the verb wearing a special ending: నిన్న వచ్చిన అమ్మాయి, literally 'yesterday-came girl'. Everything belonging to the clause stays inside it, before the participle.

రెండు రూపాలు — జరిగిన పనికి -ఇన, జరిగే పనికి -ఏ. చేసిన పని, చేసే పని. వచ్చిన బస్సు, వచ్చే బస్సు.

There are just two forms to learn. The -ఇన form points at something finished: చేసిన పని (the work that was done), నిన్న వచ్చిన బస్సు (yesterday's bus). The -ఏ form points at what happens now, habitually or later: చేసే పని (the work one does), రోజూ వచ్చే బస్సు. Learn them in pairs — చేసిన and చేసే, వచ్చిన and వచ్చే, చదివిన and చదివే, తిన్న and తినే, ఉన్న and ఉండే.

ఈ రూపం లింగం, వచనం చూడదు — వచ్చిన అబ్బాయి, వచ్చిన అమ్మాయి, వచ్చిన పిల్లలు, వచ్చిన బస్సు. అన్నీ ఒకటే.

This is the easy part: the participle never changes. వచ్చిన అబ్బాయి, వచ్చిన అమ్మాయి, వచ్చిన పిల్లలు, వచ్చిన బస్సులు — మహత్తు and అమహత్తు make no difference here, because the agreement is carried by the main verb at the end of the sentence. Nor does the participle say what role the noun plays inside the clause: నేను చదివిన పుస్తకం is the book I read, while నాకు పుస్తకం ఇచ్చిన అమ్మాయి is the girl who gave me the book. The sense of the words decides.

మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it

నాలుగు వాక్యాలు బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'నిన్న నేను చదివిన పుస్తకం …', 'రోజూ నేను చేసే పని …'.

Describe four things around you with a clause in front of the noun: నిన్న నేను చదివిన పుస్తకం చాలా బాగుంది, రోజూ నేను చేసే పని కష్టం కాదు, మా ఇంటికి వచ్చిన స్నేహితుడు తెలుగు మాట్లాడుతాడు, రోజూ వచ్చే బస్సు పెద్దది. Say each pair twice, once with -ఇన and once with -ఏ, and listen for the change in time.
