The -tū form for an action that runs alongside the main one.

Mother is cooking while singing.
Where is your younger brother?
He is in the garden, reading his lesson while walking.
Is your father at home too?
Yes. He is telling the children a story, laughing as he goes.
Everyone in your house is doing two things at once!
As for me, I am just watching and laughing.

రెండు పనులు అదే సమయంలో జరుగుతున్నాయి. మొదటి క్రియకు -తూ. కాలం, ఎవరు చేస్తున్నారు — అంతా చివరి క్రియలోనే.
When two actions happen at the same time and belong to the same person, the background action takes the -తూ form and the main action carries everything else. అమ్మ పాడుతూ వంట చేస్తోంది — the singing and the cooking are going on together, but only చేస్తోంది shows the tense and tells you who is doing it. English usually needs 'while' or an '-ing' phrase here; Telugu needs one syllable.
వర్తమానం నుండి -న్నాను తీసేయండి, చివరి ఉకారాన్ని దీర్ఘం చేయండి — చేస్తున్నాను, చేస్తూ. పాడుతున్నాను, పాడుతూ. వింటున్నాను, వింటూ.
The form is easy to build from the వర్తమానం you already know: drop the -న్నాను and lengthen the last vowel. చేస్తున్నాను gives చేస్తూ, నడుస్తున్నాను gives నడుస్తూ, పాడుతున్నాను gives పాడుతూ, నవ్వుతున్నాను gives నవ్వుతూ, చదువుతున్నాను gives చదువుతూ, తింటున్నాను gives తింటూ, వింటున్నాను gives వింటూ, చూస్తున్నాను gives చూస్తూ. The form itself never changes for person, gender or number.
చేసి — ఒక పని తరువాత ఇంకో పని. చేస్తూ — రెండూ ఒకే సమయంలో.
Keep the two chaining forms apart. చేసి from the last lesson puts the actions in a line: అన్నం తిని బడికి వెళ్ళాను — first I ate, then I went. చేస్తూ lays them on top of each other: నడుస్తూ మాట్లాడాను — the walking and the talking filled the same minutes. Both need the same subject for the two verbs, and both stand before the main verb.

Say three sentences aloud about your own house, each with one -తూ form and one main verb: నేను పాడుతూ వంట చేస్తున్నాను, అమ్మ నవ్వుతూ మాట్లాడుతోంది, పిల్లలు నడుస్తూ చదువుతున్నారు. Then say the same three in the past — నేను పాడుతూ వంట చేశాను — and notice that only the last verb changed.
