వివరణ · Explanation

చెట్టు → చెట్లు. పువ్వు → పువ్వులు. ఆకు → ఆకులు. తోట → తోటలు. విత్తనం → విత్తనాలు.

Five words that let you describe any garden. Learn each one together with its plural, because the plural is where Telugu nouns change shape: చెట్టు 'tree' gives చెట్లు, పువ్వు 'flower' gives పువ్వులు, ఆకు 'leaf' gives ఆకులు, తోట 'garden' gives తోటలు, and విత్తనం 'seed' gives విత్తనాలు. All of them are అమహత్తు, so they take ఉన్నాయి and వచ్చాయి, never ఉన్నారు: తోటలో చెట్లు ఉన్నాయి.

'ఒక పెద్ద ఎర్రని పువ్వు.' 'ఒక ఎత్తైన పాత చెట్టు.' — రెండు విశేషణాలు, ఒకే నామవాచకం.

Two adjectives can share one noun, and they simply stand side by side in front of it: ఒక పెద్ద ఎర్రని పువ్వు 'a big red flower', ఒక ఎత్తైన పాత చెట్టు 'a tall old tree', చిన్న ఆకుపచ్చని ఆకులు. Neither of them changes, and no word joins them. Keep the order English keeps — size or judgement first, colour closest to the noun — and if you want చాలా, put it right before the adjective it strengthens: చాలా పెద్ద ఎర్రని పువ్వు.

'చెట్టు ఆకులు.' 'తోటలో పువ్వులు.' 'చెట్టు కింద.'

Everything else in this lesson you already know, and a garden is a good place to put it all together. Ownership by word order: చెట్టు ఆకులు 'the tree's leaves', పువ్వు రంగు 'the flower's colour'. Place with -లో: తోటలో పువ్వులు ఉన్నాయి. Position words after the noun: చెట్టు కింద 'under the tree', ఇంటి వెనుక 'behind the house'. And the adjective as a whole predicate, from two lessons back: ఈ పువ్వులు చిన్నవి.

మా ఇంటి వెనుక ఒక చిన్న ________ ఉంది. (garden) There is a small garden behind our house.
ఆ చెట్టు ________ చాలా పెద్దవి. (leaves) That tree's leaves are very big.
వాక్యం — 'There is a tall old tree in the garden.' Arrange the words.

మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it

ఇప్పుడు మీరే బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'ఆ తోటలో ఒక పెద్ద చెట్టు ఉంది. చెట్టు ఆకులు చాలా పెద్దవి. అక్కడ చిన్న ఎర్రని పువ్వులు ఉన్నాయి. ఆ తోట చాలా అందమైనది.'

Think of a garden you know — your own, a neighbour's, or one in a temple — and describe it aloud in four sentences. Start with what is in it (ఆ తోటలో ఒక పెద్ద చెట్టు ఉంది), then use two adjectives on one noun at least twice (చిన్న ఎర్రని పువ్వులు, ఎత్తైన పాత చెట్టు), then say where you sit (మేము చెట్టు కింద కూర్చుంటాము), and close with your opinion of it (ఆ తోట చాలా అందమైనది).
