తెలుపు · నలుపు · ఎరుపు · పసుపు · ఆకుపచ్చ · నీలం. 'నాకు నీలం ఇష్టం.'
A Telugu colour word is a noun before it is anything else: తెలుపు is 'whiteness', నలుపు 'blackness', ఎరుపు 'redness'. That is why they behave like nouns in a sentence — నాకు నీలం ఇష్టం 'I like blue', తెలుపు వద్దు 'not white'. To ask, put రంగు 'colour' in the sentence and use the ఏమిటి you have had since level 1: ఈ చొక్కా రంగు ఏమిటి? The answer is the bare colour word: ఎరుపు.
'తెల్లని చొక్కా.' 'నల్లని కలం.' 'ఎర్రని బంతి.' 'ఆకుపచ్చని తలుపు.'
Standing in front of a noun, the first three change shape and end in -ని: తెలుపు becomes తెల్లని, నలుపు becomes నల్లని, ఎరుపు becomes ఎర్రని. So తెల్లని చొక్కా 'a white shirt', నల్లని కలం 'a black pen', ఎర్రని బంతి 'a red ball'. ఆకుపచ్చ does the same — ఆకుపచ్చని తలుపు. In quick speech you will also hear the short forms తెల్ల, నల్ల, ఎర్ర glued straight onto the noun: తెల్లచొక్కా.
'నీలం రంగు చొక్కా.' 'పసుపు రంగు చీర.' — 'రంగు' మధ్యలో.
For the colours that have no -ని form there is one pattern that always works, and it works for every colour: name the colour, add రంగు, then the noun. నీలం రంగు చొక్కా 'a blue shirt', పసుపు రంగు చీర 'a yellow sari', ఎరుపు రంగు బంతి. Use it whenever you are unsure. Two small facts worth keeping: పసుపు is also the name of turmeric, the spice the colour is named after, and ఆకుపచ్చ is literally 'leaf-green'.

Then ask and answer about each one — ఈ చొక్కా రంగు ఏమిటి? … తెలుపు. Finish with your own preference in one sentence: నాకు ఆకుపచ్చ రంగు ఇష్టం, నాకు నలుపు ఇష్టం లేదు.
