వివరణ · Explanation

మర్యాద ఆజ్ఞ — ధాతువు + ండి. చేయండి, వెళ్ళండి, చెప్పండి, వినండి, చూడండి, తినండి, ఇవ్వండి, కూర్చోండి, చదవండి. వచ్చు — రండి.

You have been using కూర్చోండి and చెప్పండి since level 2 as ready-made courtesies. Here is the rule behind them: put -ండి on the verb and you have the polite command. చేయు gives చేయండి, వెళ్ళు gives వెళ్ళండి, విను gives వినండి, చూడు gives చూడండి, ఇవ్వు gives ఇవ్వండి, తీసుకొను gives తీసుకోండి. Two are worth memorising on their own — వచ్చు gives రండి, and చదువు gives చదవండి.

స్నేహితుడికి, పిల్లలకు — ధాతువే ఆజ్ఞ. చేయి, రా, కూర్చో, వెళ్ళు, చెప్పు, విను, చూడు, తిను, ఇవ్వు.

For someone you call నువ్వు — a close friend, a child, a younger brother or sister — the plain command is the bare stem itself, with nothing added: వెళ్ళు, చెప్పు, విను, చూడు, తిను, ఇవ్వు. A few end in -ఇ or in a long vowel instead: చేయి, రాయి, రా, కూర్చో, తీసుకో. Notice that this is the shortest form in the language, and that is exactly why it is limited.

మర్యాదకు -ండి. స్నేహితుడికి, పిల్లలకు ధాతువు. దయచేసి ముందు, ధన్యవాదాలు తరువాత.

The choice is not about the verb at all — it is about the person. If you would say మీరు to them, use -ండి: a stranger, an elder, a shopkeeper, a teacher, anyone in a group. If you would say నువ్వు to them, the bare form is warm and normal. Saying రా to someone you have just met sounds sharp, almost rude, so when in doubt take -ండి. దయచేసి before the verb softens it further, and ధన్యవాదాలు closes the exchange.

మీరు ఉపాధ్యాయుడితో మాట్లాడుతున్నారు. ఏది సరైనది? You are speaking to your teacher. Which is right?
రవి, ఇక్కడికి ________! (స్నేహితుడికి) Ravi, come here! (to a friend)
దయచేసి పాఠం ________. (మర్యాద) Please read the lesson. (respectful)
'వినండి' — దీనికి స్నేహితుడి రూపం ఏది? Which is the plain form matching వినండి?
వాక్యం — 'Please come in.' Arrange the words.
జతపరచండి. Match each command with its meaning.

మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it

మీ ఇంటికి ఒక అతిథి వస్తారు. నాలుగు వాక్యాలు -ండి తో చెప్పండి. తరువాత అవే వాక్యాలు స్నేహితుడికి చెప్పండి.

A guest is at your door. Welcome them aloud in four polite commands — రండి, కూర్చోండి, దయచేసి టీ తాగండి, ఇక్కడ చూడండి. Now say the same four to a close friend and let every -ండి fall away: రా, కూర్చో, టీ తాగు, ఇక్కడ చూడు. Run both sets back to back until the difference is something you hear rather than something you work out.
