 రవి —  నేను గత సంవత్సరం వచ్చాను.

 రవి —  అప్పుడు నేను దుకాణంలో పని చేశాను. తరువాత బడిలో పని చేశాను. 
At that time I worked in a shop. After that I worked at the school.  
 సీత —  గత వారం మీ అన్న వచ్చాడా? 
Did your elder brother come last week?  
 రవి —  అవును. ఈరోజు ఉదయం అతను ఊరికి వెళ్ళాడు. 
Yes. This morning he went back to our village.  
 సీత —  ఈరోజు మీరు ఏం చేశారు? 
What did you do today?  
 రవి —  ఈరోజు నేను గ్రంథాలయంలో పుస్తకం చదివాను. 
Today I read a book in the library.  

వివరణ · Explanation

ఈరోజు · నిన్న · మొన్న — మూడు రోజులు. ఈరోజు ఉదయం, ఈరోజు సాయంత్రం.

ఈరోజు is 'today', and it joins నిన్న and మొన్న to make a three-step ladder backwards from now. Each of them can be narrowed by adding a part of the day after it: ఈరోజు ఉదయం (this morning), నిన్న రాత్రి (last night). Even with ఈరోజు, a finished action still takes the past tense — ఈరోజు నేను చదివాను, 'today I read'.

గత వారం · గత సంవత్సరం. గత — ఇది పదం ముందు వస్తుంది.

For longer stretches, put గత in front of the unit of time: గత వారం is last week and గత సంవత్సరం is last year. గత never changes its shape, and it always stands before the word it measures, exactly like నా and మీ do before a noun. సంవత్సరం on its own simply means 'year'.

అప్పుడు నేను దుకాణంలో పని చేశాను. తరువాత బడిలో పని చేశాను.

These two words are what turn a list of sentences into a story. అప్పుడు means 'then, at that time' and points back to a moment you have already named — గత సంవత్సరం … అప్పుడు నేను …. తరువాత means 'after that' and puts the next event in line behind the first. Both stand near the front of their sentence, and the verb stays at the end where it belongs.
