చెప్పు — చెప్పాను. ఆడు — ఆడాను. కానీ తిను — తిన్నాను. విను — విన్నాను. చూడు — చూశాను. ఇవ్వు — ఇచ్చాను.
Some verbs build the past straight off the stem you already know: చెప్పు gives చెప్పాను, ఆడు gives ఆడాను, మాట్లాడు gives మాట్లాడాను. Others reshape first. తిను and విను double their న and give తిన్న- and విన్న-. చూడు gives చూశ-, and ఇవ్వు gives ఇచ్చ-. There is no rule to work these out from; learn each past stem as part of the verb, the way you learnt the verb itself.
అతను తిన్నాడు — ఆమె తింది. అతను చూశాడు — ఆమె చూసింది. అతను ఇచ్చాడు — ఆమె ఇచ్చింది. అతను చెప్పాడు — ఆమె చెప్పింది.
Once you have the past stem, the endings from the last lesson do the rest without changing. Put -ఆడు on it for అతను and -ఇంది for ఆమె or a thing: చూశాడు beside చూసింది, ఇచ్చాడు beside ఇచ్చింది. The verb తిను shortens a little in this one form and gives తింది. For విను, keep to విన్నాను, విన్నావు, విన్నాడు, విన్నారు for now.
ఏం జరిగింది? — నిన్న ఇంట్లో ఏం జరిగింది?
జరుగు means 'happen', and the question ఏం జరిగింది? — 'what happened?' — is one of the most useful sentences in the language. An event is not a person, so it always takes the అమహత్తు form: జరిగింది for one thing, జరిగాయి for several. You will hear this question at the door, on the phone, and at the start of every story.

Tell yesterday in five sentences, one for each of the new verbs: what you ate, what you watched, what you heard, what someone told you, and what someone gave you. Then ask a friend the question ఏం జరిగింది? and answer it for them in one sentence. Say each verb slowly enough to hear the doubled న in తిన్నాను and విన్నాను.
