వివరణ · Explanation
'పండుగ కోసం' · 'పెళ్ళి కోసం' · 'నీ కోసం'. 'కోసం' పదం తరువాత వస్తుంది.
కోసం follows the word it belongs to and means 'for, for the sake of'. With a plain noun, nothing changes: పండుగ కోసం, పెళ్ళి కోసం, డబ్బు కోసం. Where a noun has the special first-slot form you met last lesson, use that one: ఇంటి కోసం, స్నేహితుడి కోసం, మా అక్క కోసం. With pronouns it takes exactly the possessive forms — నా కోసం, నీ కోసం, మీ కోసం, మా కోసం, వాళ్ళ కోసం, తన కోసం — never నేను కోసం.
రెండు ప్రశ్నలు — 'దేని కోసం?' · 'ఎవరి కోసం?'
Two questions open with కోసం. దేని కోసం? asks for what purpose — దేని is the question form of ఏది. ఎవరి కోసం? asks for whose benefit, built on the ఎవరి you learnt last lesson. దేని కోసం? is close to ఎందుకు? 'why', but it asks specifically for the aim, not for the cause: దేని కోసం చదువుతున్నారు? — పాఠం కోసం.
'నాన్నకు ఇస్తున్నాను' · 'నాన్న కోసం కొంటున్నాను.'
Keep -కి / -కు apart from కోసం. The case ending marks where a thing actually goes: నాన్నకు ఇస్తున్నాను, I am giving it to father, so it lands in his hand. కోసం marks who or what it is meant for: నాన్న కోసం కొంటున్నాను, I am buying it for father, whether or not he ever holds it. Motion keeps -కి too — దుకాణానికి వెళుతున్నాను is where I go, పెళ్ళి కోసం is why I go.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
మీ ఇంట్లో ఇప్పుడు పండుగ. బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'నేను దుకాణానికి వెళుతున్నాను. పండుగ కోసం బహుమతి కొంటున్నాను. ఇది మా అమ్మ కోసం.'
Picture a festival at home and say three sentences aloud: where you are going (దుకాణానికి వెళుతున్నాను), what for (పండుగ కోసం), and whom the gift is for (మా అమ్మ కోసం). Then have a friend ask you దేని కోసం? and ఎవరి కోసం? in turn, and answer each in one short sentence. Say it once more, replacing పండుగ with పెళ్ళి.
