వివరణ · Explanation

ఎక్కడికి? — గమ్యం. గమ్యం మాట చివర '-కి' లేదా '-కు': బడికి వెళుతున్నాను, గుడికి వెళుతున్నాను.

To say where you are heading, put -ki or -ku on the end of the place: బడికి వెళుతున్నాను, 'I am going to school'. The matching question is ఎక్కడికి? — ఎక్కడ (where) with the same ending on it. English needs a separate little word 'to'; Telugu just attaches it to the noun, and the verb still comes last.

మాట చివర ఇ, ఈ, ఎ, ఏ, ఐ — '-కి': బడికి, గుడికి, పనికి. మిగతా చోట — '-కు': సినిమాకు, అమ్మకు.

The choice works just like -ni and -nu did. After ఇ, ఈ, ఎ, ఏ, ఐ you get -ki (బడి → బడికి, గుడి → గుడికి, పని → పనికి); after any other vowel you get -ku (సినిమా → సినిమాకు, అమ్మ → అమ్మకు). Traditional grammar files these endings under the షష్ఠీ విభక్తి, though in a sentence like this one they do the work English does with 'to'.

కొన్ని మాటల రూపం వేరు: ఇల్లు → ఇంటికి. దుకాణం → దుకాణానికి. ఊరు → ఊరికి. ఇవి జతలుగా నేర్చుకోండి.

A few common words reshape themselves before the ending, and there is nothing to work out — just learn each pair by heart: ఇల్లు → ఇంటికి (home), ఊరు → ఊరికి (to town), and every word in -ం stretches out the same way as it did for the object marker: దుకాణం → దుకాణానికి, గుమ్మం → గుమ్మానికి.

మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it

ఇప్పుడు మీరే బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'నేను బడికి వెళుతున్నాను.' కొన్ని చోట్లు చెప్పండి: గుడి, దుకాణం, ఇల్లు, పని. ప్రతి చోటు గమ్యం రూపం చెప్పండి. ఇప్పుడు ప్రశ్న అడగండి — 'మీరు ఎక్కడికి వెళుతున్నారు?'

Name four places in your own town and send yourself to each one out loud: నేను గుడికి వెళుతున్నాను, నేను దుకాణానికి వెళుతున్నాను, నేను ఇంటికి వెళుతున్నాను, నేను పనికి వెళుతున్నాను. Check the last vowel each time before you choose -ki or -ku. Then ask a friend the question — మీరు ఎక్కడికి వెళుతున్నారు? — and answer it as they would.
