వివరణ · Explanation
అన్న — పెద్ద అబ్బాయి. తమ్ముడు — చిన్న అబ్బాయి. అక్క — పెద్ద అమ్మాయి. చెల్లెలు — చిన్న అమ్మాయి.
English has one word 'brother' and one word 'sister'. Telugu has none. What it has is four words that already tell you who is older: అన్న is a brother older than you, తమ్ముడు a brother younger than you, అక్క an older sister, చెల్లెలు a younger one. There is no neutral word to fall back on, so when you name a sibling you have to know the birth order — and that is exactly the point.
మా అన్న వస్తున్నారు — ఇది మర్యాద. మా తమ్ముడు వస్తున్నాడు — ఇది మామూలు.
Telugu marks respect in the verb. Speak about someone older than you — your mother, your father, your అన్న, your అక్క — and the verb takes the plural ending even for one person: మా అమ్మ వంట చేస్తున్నారు, మా అన్న బయట ఉన్నారు. For a younger brother or sister the ordinary singular is right: మా తమ్ముడు ఆడుతున్నాడు, మా చెల్లెలు ఇక్కడ ఉంది. Getting this wrong sounds cold, so use the plural whenever the person is your elder.
అమ్మ + ను = అమ్మను. అక్క + ను = అక్కను. తమ్ముడు → తమ్ముడిని. చెల్లెలు → చెల్లెలిని.
These are all people, so as object of a verb they must carry the marker you learnt last lesson. అమ్మ, నాన్న, అన్న, అక్క end in ఆ and take -nu: నేను అమ్మను పిలుస్తున్నాను. Words in -డు and -లు reshape their ending slightly first: తమ్ముడు → తమ్ముడిని, చెల్లెలు → చెల్లెలిని. Learn those two as fixed pairs.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
ఇప్పుడు మీరే బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'మా అమ్మ పేరు …, మా నాన్న పేరు ….' మీ ఇంటి మనుషులు ఎవరు? ప్రతి మనిషి పేరు చెప్పండి. పెద్దవాళ్ళు — 'ఉన్నారు'. చిన్నవాళ్ళు — 'ఉన్నాడు', 'ఉంది'.
Introduce your own family out loud, one line each: మా అమ్మ పేరు …, మా అన్న పేరు …, మా చెల్లెలు పేరు …. Then say where each of them is right now, and let the verb do the respect work — ఉన్నారు for anyone older than you, ఉన్నాడు or ఉంది for anyone younger. Run through the whole family twice without stopping.
