వివరణ · Explanation
వాక్యంలో కర్త ఒకటి, కర్మ ఒకటి, క్రియ ఒకటి. కర్మ మాట చివర '-ని' లేదా '-ను'. ఇది ద్వితీయా విభక్తి.
A sentence has a doer (కర్త), a thing the action lands on (కర్మ), and a verb — and the verb stays last. Telugu can glue a small ending onto that second element to say plainly 'this is what the action lands on'. That ending is -ni or -nu, and the tradition calls it the ద్వితీయా విభక్తి, the accusative.
మాట చివర ఇ, ఈ — '-ని': బంతిని, కుర్చీని. మిగతా చోట '-ను': పండును, గీతను.
Which of the two you use depends on the last vowel of the word. After ఇ, ఈ, ఎ, ఏ it is -ni: బంతి → బంతిని, కుర్చీ → కుర్చీని. Everywhere else it is -nu: పండు → పండును, గీత → గీతను. Say both aloud and your mouth will tell you why.
పుస్తకం, కలం, అన్నం — కర్మ రూపం: పుస్తకాన్ని, కలాన్ని, అన్నాన్ని.
Words ending in -ం stretch a little before the ending: పుస్తకం → పుస్తకాన్ని, కలం → కలాన్ని, అన్నం → అన్నాన్ని. Learn each as a fixed pair. Also: the marker is not compulsory for things. నేను పుస్తకం చదువుతున్నాను is 'I am reading a book'; నేను ఈ పుస్తకాన్ని చదువుతున్నాను is 'I am reading this book'. A definite, pointed-at object takes the ending — a vague one often goes bare.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
ఇప్పుడు మీరే బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'నేను ఈ పుస్తకాన్ని చదువుతున్నాను.' కొన్ని వస్తువులు చూడండి — పుస్తకం, కలం, బంతి, కుర్చీ. ప్రతి వస్తువు కర్మ రూపం చెప్పండి.
Look around you and pick four things you can name in Telugu. For each one, say a full sentence out loud with the object marker on it: నేను ఈ పుస్తకాన్ని చూస్తున్నాను, నేను కలాన్ని తీసుకుంటున్నాను, నేను బంతిని ఇస్తున్నాను. Then say each sentence again without the marker and listen to the difference — one points at a particular thing, the other does not.
