వివరణ · Explanation
అన్నం, పప్పు, కూర, పచ్చడి, పెరుగు — ఇది భోజనం.
భోజనం is a full sit-down meal, and Telugu names its parts in the order they reach the plate: అన్నం (cooked rice) first, then పప్పు (dal), then కూర (the cooked vegetable dish), పచ్చడి (chutney or pickle) at the edge, and పెరుగు (curd) last of all. రొట్టె is flatbread and టీ is tea — the two that stand outside that order.
'నేను అన్నం తింటున్నాను, పప్పు తింటున్నాను.' 'నేను రొట్టె తింటున్నాను, టీ తాగుతున్నాను.'
Telugu needs no word for 'and' between two things you are doing. Say the first clause, pause, say the second: నేను రొట్టె తింటున్నాను, టీ తాగుతున్నాను. The subject is stated once and simply carries over, and each clause keeps its own verb at the end. In speech the pause does all the work; the joining words come later in the course.
'పెరుగు ఉందా?' — 'అవును, పెరుగు ఉంది.' 'నీళ్ళు ఉన్నాయా?' — 'అవును, నీళ్ళు ఉన్నాయి.'
At a Telugu table the single most useful sentence is a yes-no question: name the thing and add -ఆ to ఉంది — పెరుగు ఉందా?, రొట్టె ఉందా?, టీ ఉందా?. The answer is అవును, … ఉంది or simply లేదు. When the thing is plural the pair becomes ఉన్నాయా? — ఉన్నాయి, as in నీళ్ళు ఉన్నాయా?.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
ఇప్పుడు మీరే చెప్పండి — 'నేను అన్నం తింటున్నాను, పప్పు తింటున్నాను, పెరుగు తింటున్నాను. ఇప్పుడు నేను టీ తాగుతున్నాను.'
Lay out an imaginary plate and name what is on it one item at a time: అన్నం ఉంది, పప్పు ఉంది, కూర ఉంది, పచ్చడి ఉంది, పెరుగు ఉంది. Then eat it aloud, stringing the clauses together with nothing but a pause between them. Finish by asking for the two things that are missing: రొట్టె ఉందా? టీ ఉందా?
