వివరణ · Explanation

'నేను కొంటున్నాను. నువ్వు కొంటున్నావు. అతను కొంటున్నాడు. మేము కొంటున్నాము. మీరు కొంటున్నారు.'

కొను 'buy' takes the same -తున్న- present you met at the start of this level. Its stem ends in -ను, so it behaves exactly like తిను: తిను gives తింటున్నాను, and కొను gives కొంటున్నాను. Learn the row across rather than word by word — కొంటున్నాను, కొంటున్నావు, కొంటున్నాడు, కొంటున్నాము, కొంటున్నారు — and the verb still closes the sentence.

'ఎంత?' — ధర ప్రశ్న. 'కూరగాయలు ఎంత?' 'పండ్లు ఎంత?' 'ధర ఎంత?'

ఎంత, the 'how much' from level 1, is the whole of Telugu price-asking. Point at the thing and name it, then add ఎంత? — కూరగాయలు ఎంత?, బియ్యం ఎంత?. You can also ask about the ధర itself: ధర ఎంత?. The answers need numbers, and those arrive as a full set in level 3; for now make the question automatic.

'కూరగాయలు ఉన్నాయి.' 'పండ్లు ఉన్నాయి.' 'నీళ్ళు ఉన్నాయి.' — 'ఉంది' కాదు.

Food words are often plural in Telugu. కూరగాయ is one vegetable and కూరగాయలు is what you buy; పండు is one fruit and పండ్లు is a basket of them. A plural thing takes ఉన్నాయి, never ఉంది — the same అమహత్తు agreement you saw in నీళ్ళు ఉన్నాయి.

మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it

ఇప్పుడు మీరే బిగ్గరగా చెప్పండి — 'నమస్కారం! నేను కూరగాయలు కొంటున్నాను. ధర ఎంత?'

Stand at an imaginary stall and say it aloud: నమస్కారం! నేను కూరగాయలు కొంటున్నాను. Then ask after three things one by one — కూరగాయలు ఎంత?, పండ్లు ఎంత?, బియ్యం ఎంత? — and close with ధన్యవాదాలు. Run the whole round twice, and swap కొంటున్నాను for కొంటున్నాము as though you had come with a friend.
