వివరణ · Explanation
'క్షమించండి' — రెండు పనులు: ముందు పలకరింపు, తరువాత క్షమాపణ. జవాబు: 'పర్వాలేదు.'
క్షమించండి does two jobs. Said before you speak to a stranger it means 'excuse me' and opens the conversation, exactly as Ravi uses it here. Said after a mistake it means 'sorry'. Either way the reply is almost always పర్వాలేదు — literally 'it does not matter', and the kindest word in this lesson. Take క్షమించండి as one fixed word for now; the polite -ండి ending inside it gets a lesson of its own in level 2.
'ధన్యవాదాలు' — thank you. ఇది బహువచన రూపం: ఒకటి ధన్యవాదం, చాలా ధన్యవాదాలు.
ధన్యవాదాలు is 'thank you'. Its shape is plural — one thanks is a ధన్యవాదం and you always offer them in the plural, rather as English says 'thanks'. It is a somewhat formal word and it is exactly right with a stranger, a shopkeeper, a teacher or an elder. Among close friends Telugu often thanks with a smile and no word at all, so do not feel it is missing when you do not hear it.
'దయచేసి' — అడిగే ముందు. 'అలాగే' — సరే, కానీ మృదువుగా.
దయచేసి is 'please', and it stands at the front of what you are asking for: దయచేసి, మీ పేరు ఏమిటి? Even with no verb yet in your kit, that is already a complete and courteous request. అలాగే is the warm cousin of సరే from lesson 4 — సరే settles a matter, while అలాగే agrees to do what was asked: 'of course, that is how it will be'.

అభ్యాసం · Practice
మీరే చెప్పండి · Use it
ఇప్పుడు మీరే చెప్పండి — 'క్షమించండి! దయచేసి, మీ పేరు ఏమిటి?' చివర — 'ధన్యవాదాలు!'
Play the whole street-corner exchange aloud, both parts of it. Open with క్షమించండి!, ask two things with దయచేసి, మీ పేరు ఏమిటి? and దయచేసి, మీ ఊరు ఏది?, answer yourself as the other person, then close with ధన్యవాదాలు! and hear పర్వాలేదు or అలాగే come back. Five words, and everything you say in Telugu from now on is polite.
