Explanation
ఎక్కడ asks 'where?', and like every Telugu question word it stands in exactly the slot the answer will fill: మీ ఇల్లు ఎక్కడ? You now hold the complete set of place words: ఇక్కడ for near, అక్కడ for far, ఎక్కడ for the question.
English translates both as 'what', but they are not interchangeable. ఏమిటి asks for the identity of something you cannot name at all: ఇది ఏమిటి? — 'what is this?'. ఏది picks one out of a set you already know exists: మీ ఊరు ఏది? — there are many towns, and yours is one of them. That is why 'where are you from?' comes out in Telugu as 'which is your town?'.
This three-way set is the backbone of Telugu pointing, and it is worth learning as a row rather than as six separate words. Once the row is in your ear, every new question word you meet — ఎవరు, ఎప్పుడు, ఎలా, ఎందుకు — will already feel familiar, because each one begins with the same ఎ-.

Use it
Put the whole level so far into one short introduction and say it aloud: నమస్కారం! Then ask both questions back — మీ ఊరు ఏది? and మీ ఇల్లు ఎక్కడ? — and answer them as though you were the other person. Five lessons in, you can already open a conversation with a stranger and keep it going for a minute.
