Level 11 · Lesson 9 కృత్ప్రత్యయాలు
Primary derivatives
ధాతువుకు చేరి దాన్ని నామవాచకంగానో విశేషణంగానో మార్చే ప్రత్యయం కృత్ప్రత్యయం; అలా ఏర్పడిన పదం కృదంతం.
Suffixes that turn a verb root into a noun or a modifier, and the word class they create.
గుర్తు చేసుకోండి · You already know this
You have been using these forms since Level 5. In చదవడం మంచిది the word చదవడం is not doing the work of a verb — it is the subject of the sentence, a noun. In వచ్చిన మనిషి the word వచ్చిన sits in front of a noun like పెద్ద or కొత్త would, an adjective. Both were made from a verb root and then stopped behaving like verbs. The suffixes that do that are the కృత్ప్రత్యయాలు, and this lesson gives them their name and their shape.
సూత్రాలు · The rules
పదకొండవ స్థాయిలో ఇప్పటిదాకా రెండు పదాలను కలిపే సమాసాలను చూశారు. ఇక్కడ కలయిక లేదు — ఒకే ధాతువు మీద ఒక ప్రత్యయం చేరి కొత్త పదం పుడుతోంది. కృత్ప్రత్యయానికి ఉన్న ఒకే ఒక షరతు: అది చేరేది ఎప్పుడూ ధాతువుకే, నామవాచకానికి కాదు.
Compounds join two words. Derivation is different: one root, one suffix, a new word. The single test that defines a kṛt suffix is what it attaches to — always a verb root, never a noun. Hold on to that test, because the next lesson introduces a second family of suffixes that attach only to nouns.
This is the workhorse. Once చదువుట exists, every case ending is available to it: చదువుట మంచిది, చదువుటకు వచ్చాను, చదువుట వలన లాభం. The infinitive of purpose you learned in Level 10 — చేయుటకు, చూచుటకు — is nothing but this verbal noun with a case ending on top. Nothing new had to be invented for it.
ఈ మూడు రూపాలూ ఒకే ధాతువు నుంచి వస్తాయి, మూడూ విశేషణాలుగానే పనిచేస్తాయి. విశేషణం లాగే ఇవి లింగ వచన విభక్తులతో మారవు — వచ్చిన మనిషి, వచ్చిన మనుషులు, వచ్చిన మనుషులకు. మారేది ఎప్పుడూ వెనుక ఉన్న నామవాచకమే.
All three are built from one root and all three behave exactly like adjectives: they stand in front of the noun and never inflect. వచ్చిన మనిషి, వచ్చిన మనుషులు, వచ్చిన మనుషులకు — the participle sits unchanged while the noun behind it takes the plural and the case.
రచయిత is the one who composes, దాత the one who gives, శ్రోత the one who listens. We use them as ordinary Telugu words, but their build is Sanskrit. The Telugu way of making an agent is to hang -వాడు on something; Sanskrit hangs -తృ on the root. Once you see them as the same move in two languages, the whole set stops needing to be memorised.
ప్రక్రియ · Step by step
